Walk-off Win
The Detroit Tigers got a walk-off victory in the first TV broadcast game of the year today, defeating their long-time post-season rivals, the St. Louis Cardinals. It came down to the 9th inning, when the Tigers and Cardinals were locked at 6 runs apiece. Ryan Perry pitched a high-velocity top half, allowing a hit but no runs. As it turns out, it was good enough for the win as the Tigers scratched across a run in the bottem half of the final frame.
Reportedly Ivan Rodriguez has signed with Houston Astros. As a great former Tigers catcher, I certainly wish him well. I still proudly wear my Pudge jersey every once and a while. Thanks for signing him, since I had the foresight to put him on my fantasy team, even when he was still a free agent.

10-4 Good Buddy
The Detroit Tigers pulled off a 10 to 4 come-from-behind victory out of their collective hats today, despite a poor start by Dontrelle Willis. Nate Robertson came in for relief and retired 9 batters in a row. Eddie Bonine came on late in the game and had similar results, retiring the last 8 batters of the game. What else can I say but, “Pitching wins ball games!” The offense took off against the former Tiger Mike Maroth, now playing for the Toronto Blue Jays, featuring 4 infield hits and two home runs (Laird and Hessman).
In the World Baseball Classic, Venezuela came through with a victory over the Dutch 3 – 1, including a home run from Tigers first-baseman Miguel Cabrera. Tonight we get to see Team USA with Curtis Granderson in the outfield versus Puerto Rico, featuring Ivan Rodriguez behind the plate. I-Rod is still a free agent despite his great performance in the WBC. Inevitably, some team will sign him before the start of the MLB season.

Tribute to Grilli
Carlos Guillen gave Jason Grilli a rude tribute, taking his former teammate deep in the Rogers Centre as part of the World Baseball Classic. I don’t think many Tigers fans will find that surprising. To be honest, Team Italy is playing much better than expected.
In another game, former Tigers catcher Ivan Rodriguez went 4 for 4 with 3 RBI’s for his team, Puerto Rico. It’s nice to see him like his old self again.
